The Worth of Sign Language
"The worth of Dutch Sign Language" is a project where I've collected stories of 'NGT' (Nederlandse Gebarentaal) users and illustrated them. These illustrations are embroidered on a tablecloth which decorates a round table; this symbolizes that every story about this extraordinary language is equal.
The tablecloth is supported by coasters where the stories I've collected are supported by a conversation starter, meant to make the hearing viewer think about sign language.
The project is in Dutch, so unfortunately most of what's beneath this line of text won't make much sense. I'll explain to you what's happening: I set the table up at some popular cafe's in Rotterdam; the Tea Lab and Steijn on the Nieuwe Binnenweg.
There I awaited reactions; people had the opportunity to tell their own story about (sign) language, and after that I illustrated those.
